Technical Product Manager

Remote

Hello!

We are BitterBrains, creators of the popular learning platforms Vue School and Mastering Nuxt, and proud organizers of large online developer events like Nuxt Nation, Vue.js Nation, and Vue Forge. We also run the Official Vue.js Certification in collaboration with the creator of the framework, Evan You, and the Vue.js team.

Since 2016, we've empowered over 160,000 developers to learn Vue.js and other web technologies, building a community of half a million developers with over a million annual users.

Our mission is to continue spreading knowledge and making developers’ lives easier.

🔎 What we are looking for

certificates.dev is building a modern, developer-first certification platform. We’re looking for a hands-on Technical Product Manager who thrives in early-stage environments and is comfortable going deep into technical details while shipping fast. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats — product, technical translator, and delivery driver — while scaling a secure, exam-based platform.

Why Join certificates.dev

  • Build a developer-centric certification platform from the ground up.
  • High ownership, real impact, and direct influence on product direction.
  • Small team, fast feedback loops, and minimal process overhead.

📝 Experience Requirements

  • 4–7+ years in technical product management, engineering, or hybrid roles.
  • Hands-on development experience working with modern web stacks, ideally including Laravel (PHP) and Vue.js
  • Strong understanding of web architectures, APIs, third-party integrations, and cloud-based systems.
  • Proven experience working closely with engineers in fast-moving startup environments.
  • Comfortable diving into technical discussions around scalability, security, and system constraints.
  • Ability to ship incrementally, learn quickly, and adapt priorities as the product evolves.
  • Clear communicator who can translate between business needs and technical implementation.

🎯 Objectives and Responsibilities of this Role

  • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for the certificates.dev platform, from discovery to delivery and iteration.
  • Work directly with engineers on system design, APIs, and integrations, especially proctoring, identity verification, payments, and other partners.
  • Define and maintain clear, technical product requirements (PRDs, user stories, API specs, acceptance criteria).
  • Lead the build-out of advanced exam capabilities: timed exams, question banks, grading logic, retakes, anti-cheat, and reliability under load.
  • Actively unblock engineers by clarifying scope, trade-offs, and edge cases — not just setting direction.
  • Make pragmatic decisions around MVP vs scale, balancing speed, security, and future extensibility.
  • Partner with design to shape simple, intuitive candidate and admin experiences.
  • Track real-world usage, exam performance, and platform health to continuously improve the product.
  • Talk directly to users, certification partners, and vendors to validate assumptions and refine solutions.
  • Own and evolve the product roadmap, aligning short-term execution with long-term platform strategy and business goals.
  • Use product analytics and behavioral data to understand user flows, exam completion, drop-offs, reliability issues, and feature adoption.
  • Collaborate with marketing and business stakeholders to optimize conversion and usage metrics, such as sign-ups, exam starts, completion rates, retakes, and certification success.
  • Track real-world usage, exam performance, and platform health metrics to continuously improve reliability, trust, and user outcomes.
  • Explore, integrate, and responsibly apply AI-powered features where they add real value—such as question generation, grading assistance, fraud detection, exam analysis, or user support, while maintaining transparency and fairness.

✅ Nice To Have

  • Experience with online exams, certifications, ed-tech, or proctoring systems.
  • Background in developer tooling or platforms built for technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with high-concurrency systems or time-critical workflows (e.g. exam windows).
  • Prior startup or early-stage product experience.

🏆 What We Offer

  • A chance to work on content that reaches hundreds of thousands of developers
  • Competitive salary + performance bonuses
  • Full-time remote position
  • Flexible hours and flexible paid time off
  • Paid local bank holidays
  • Annual company workcation trip
  • Budget for equipment, training, and conferences
  • Hardware for recording and screencasting
  • Opportunities to travel and speak at international events
  • A team that actually enjoys working together
  • A job where you’re literally paid to learn, teach, and create things you’re passionate about
